Interested in blogging? If you what start a blog and don't know how, please follow these tips that you should know IMMEDIATELY!

A few weeks ago I did an Instagram Live where I shared some tips on blogging, social media, and photography. It lasted up to an hour and a half! … WoW! #grateful

However, many people wrote me that they, unfortunately, missed it. So I decided to write one of the topics here on the blog: 5 things you have to keep in mind when you start a blog.

I started The Key Item in 2010 and I had no idea what I was doing. Over time, reading a lot, taking courses online and testing here and there I have discovered many things that I would have wanted to know before. Today I tell you everything in case you want to start a blog without dying while trying.

Interested in blogging? If you what start a blog and don't know how, please follow these tips that you should know IMMEDIATELY!

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE.

When you start a blog you can not talk to everyone, you have to be very specific. Find a niche of people who are interested and satisfy their needs with quality content. Believe me, when you know exactly who you are talking to, your content plan will be much easier to define.

CREATE A CONTENT PLAN.

I had such a hard time learning to do this. In my mind, a blogger had to post what will come to his/her mind. But what if the muse does not flow? Having a content plan is vital when you want to start a blog. As a result, you will be constant and do not run out of ideas. In addition, planning will help you create quality content and not post irrelevant topics.

USE INTERESTING BLOGPOST TITLES.

I remember when I started my blog, I used super basic or nothing descriptive blog titles like “Pretty In Pink”. As creative as I wanted to be, that kind of titles does not catch the attention of any prospective reader. Moreover, I was not helping any search engineers to find me. My advice is to think of a key phrase that you think people might be looking for in Google, known in SEO as the ‘keyword’.

START CREATING A MAIL LIST.

It was not until 2014 that I decided to start creating a list of subscribers. I never imagined how important this is when you want to start a blog. Creating a mail list will make you have more direct contact with your readers. It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out and you think only two people read your blog. Start thinking about creating an email list by offering extra value to your readers through personalized emails. You will see that in the long run, it will be super useful. For this, I recommend Mailchimp or Coverkit.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO EVOLVE.

Nothing is written on a stone. Your blog will evolve with you, the more things you learn and experience. Also, if you feel that a topic is not the one that you are passionate about or you feel it is more “work” than “fun”. Give it up! Do not stay suffering, for something that does not catch your attention completely. Believe me, to start a blog should really excite you and you should feel the passion deep inside. This will give you the strength to move forward every day.
