How To Curl Your Hair Without Heat
Anyone who has lived in Europe knows that Europeans love a Latina with her curly/wavy hair. I used to get some many compliments that I felt very lucky about my roots. When I came back to Santo Domingo, I didn’t want to deal with my wild hair that sometimes can look like Mufasa from The Lion King, so I started to go back to the Hair Salon, but then I started going to the gym and … “ciao, ciao, blowout!”
In the past few months, I ‘ve learn to embrace my natural hair. I usually wash it at home because I hate that I have to wait to get a blowout and then two days later they will be all sweaty. I’ve learned to use the curling iron and straightener to curl my hair only for special occasions, but most of the time I wear my natural waves. Later I learned this technique to curl your hair without heat and I loved it!! Here is the complete tutorial; it only takes a couple of minutes…I promise! And I know lots of you will really appreciate it.
You will need:
- A fabric headband (approx. 1 – 1.5”inch wide)
- A cotton tshirt
- Bobby pins
- Wide tooth hair comb
- Hair cream moisturizer (I’m using THIS one)
- Wrap your wet hair in the t-shirt to eliminate the excess of water.
- Put the hair cream moisturizer on the damp hair, I like to emphasis on the ends.
- Comb your hair to make it straight
- Let it dry naturally. In the mean time, you could read a book, do your makeup or read the latest posts on the blog. 😉
- When the hair dries it might look like mine. I usually like to leave it not wet but a little bit cold. Divide all your hair in the middle, like if you were planning to do two braids.
- Put the headband on the top of your head, like a ninja/hippie or Pocahontas style.
- Start on the sides. Take a piece of hair and wrap it around the headband. Let the wrapped piece mix together with the rest of your hair and repeat.
- Continue to do the same until you achieve the first half.
- Repeat on the other side. If you have very long hair like mine, once you get to the back part of the head keep wrapping your piece of hair until there is nothing left.
- Use bobby pins to secure the headband or any pieces of loose hair.
- Finally, your hair will look like this, as you see in photo. Leave it like that for several hours, do it in the morning if you are planning a night out or sleep with it until the next day. When you are ready, carefully take out the headband and use your fingers to style it as you like.
There you have it! Curls without a curling iron or straightener. If you have very thin hair maybe you would like to apply hair spray to hold the curls better or if you feel there are not “curling enough” you could use the curling iron to help them out. PLEASE NOTE, I’ve only try this technique on my own type of hair, which is very thick and wavy. I don’t now if this would work on a very thin or very curly hair, however you could try and see… Let me know your results. Good luck!
