DIY Items // Hand Painted Candles & Photo Frame
This is the second DIY tutorials in collaboration with Encajes La Rosario. For this occasion I wanted to bring you a very easy project that never gets old and it’s always very grateful; hand-painted candles and photo frame. It is clear that both we can find in any store decoration, but as I said before, when a customize detail always has a greater value. Besides, you can save some bucks, if you try it yourself. For this tutorial, I used gold paint as my main resource. For me, the gold color brings a “chic” and luxurious touch to any piece, also it solves many decor problems.
You can do this tutorial for your personal use or to give it away to a friend in San Valentin, birthday or special date. I’m sure these gifts will brighten their heart … Ok, now let’s get into it!
MATERIALS:
- Candles of different sizes and colors
- Golden Acrylic paint
- Flat brush
- Masking Tape
- A pencil
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. To create the dots pattern , you just have to take the back of a charcoal pencil and put some paint on the back erase. Apply it on randomly on the candle or keep an equal distance between each dot. It’s up to you! Let it dry completely.
2. To create the striped pattern, you just have to take the masking tape and cover the parts that you do not want to be painted. Apply the paint with a brush, let it dry for a few minutes (10-15mins) and repeat with different layers until it’s cover completely. Remove the tape and let dry completely.
MATERIALS:
- A inexpensive portrait frame
- White cardboard
- Gold spray paint
- Clear Spray paint
- Cutter + cutting board
- Rule
- Pencil
- Printed Photo ( the size will depend of the portrait frame; mine is 6×8 “and I printed a photo from instagram 4×4″)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Open the portrait frame and take out the front frame.
- Apply the gold spray paint and remember to let it dry between coats. Finish by applying the clear spray for a shiny touch.
- Cut the cardboard to fit your picture frame. Center your image and mark with a pencil. Cut the central space with the cutter and ruler to create a cardboard frame. TIP: cut the central space slightly smaller than the image.
- Place the printed photo behind the cardboard. Assemble the portrait frame and … voilá!
Wrap everything into a box with a ribbon or wait for next week’s tutorial so you can see how I put all the pieces together, both last week’s Monogram Mug and these beautiful items. I promise you will love them! 🙂 STAY TUNED!
