How To Create A Color Palette With An App
When I was studying fashion in Milan, my teachers used to say that I was very good with color. I had the ability to create interesting color palettes whenever I was designing a new collection. I remember that one time I answered proudly. “That’s because I come from the Caribbean, where everything is so colorful!” With time and lots of practice, I trained my eyes to see beyond a simple image (ps. This is one of the things that we teach in the workshop The Key To Social Photos) The shapes, textures and colors can be a wonderful source of inspiration. I love to create a color palette with images of everyday life to get inspire. I’ve done it manually using digital programs like Photoshop as you might have seen on my “Style by Inspiration” series, until I discovered an APP that can do it in just one click.
With the Color ViewFinder, you just need to take a picture with your digital device and the app will extract all the possible colors that are part of the image, creating a interesting palette of combinations. You are free to select how many colors you want, choose the format to place the swatched and voilá! Save your entire image that you can send to your email or share it social media. Super cool! Don’t; you think? Here is a quick tutorial on how it works …
Ok, so maybe you’re asking yourself: “why do i need this?” Very easy .. It will help you decided what to wear! Sometimes, we spend hours trying to create new looks with the items we already have in our closet. Or we buy something and use it always the same way, or ever worse, we don’t use it at all. No, no, no … it is time to get creative! And if you don’t know where to begin, the answer is to create a color palette. A very simple example: I took this photo of colorul bottles and made my palette with the Color ViewFinder App. Then I used the image as inspiration to create a total look. Who knew that navy blue would look so good with red and orange? You can apply this trick in fashion, or even decoration, artwork or graphic design. Most importantly, remember to always have fun!
