After we did the trend report about embellished jackets, I was left with the urge of making one. In stores you can find a ton of styles for all kinds of budgets. Yet, it occurred to me that I can make one myself. Besides from having a fun and creative afternoon here in the studio, I saved a few bucks. Also, I already had a military green jacket that I hadn’t used in years, so it was the perfect excuse to put this project in action. The tutorial for this patch jacket is super easy to make. STEPS:

  1. Organize the patches on the jacket and decide the way you want to arrange them. Remember to do this with the back as well.
  2. Once the patches are in the position you wish, take a photo in case the move and you forget the position.
  3. Apply the hot iron over each of the patches. You should leave it over everyone for a few minutes so they will stick well.
  4. I decide to write something on the patch jacket to make it more personal. Later I embroidered it by hand with the thick embroidery thread. Write a word or phrase with a white pencil.
  5. Then, take a thick needle and thread and begin to stitch it by hand. I applied the “black stitch” technique, but you can do it how you prefer. Here I will leave a tutorial on how you can accomplish this. (TUTORIAL)
  6. Finally, stitch the patches onto the jacket. This will help them to stay longer on the patch jacket, specially when you decide to wash it. Another trick is to add a little bit of glue on the corners of the patches.
